Holt, emeritus professor at New York University, worked, among others, with Hadley Cantrill, Gordon Allport, Henry Murray, and with David Rapaport. After Rapaport's death he directed, together with George S. Klein, his research group where he tried to continue the same line of research, both theoretical and experimental, around the psychoanalytic theory of thinking. He later took a critical stance toward the Freudian metapsychology. A collection of his writings was published in the book Freud Reappraised. Eagle worked in the research group with Robert Holt and George Klein at New York University. Later he directed the Departmet of Psychology of York University in Toronto, e now he is professor at Adelphi University (New York). E' was nominated, first scholar in the behavioral sciences, Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, worked at the Center for Philosophy of Science of the University of Pittsburgh together with Adolf Grünbaum and Carl G. Hempel, in the year 1993-94 was nominated "Erik Erikson Scholar-in-Residence" at the Austen Riggs Center in Stockbridge (Massachusetts), and was elected President of Division 39 ("Psychoanalysis") of the American Psychological Association. He is the author of the book Recent Developments in Psychoanalysis. A Critical Evaluation (New York: McGraw-Hill, 1984, reprinted by Harvard Univ. Press in 1987).
