March 1, 2010

Dear Colleagues,

Greetings to all members of the Rapaport-Klein Study Group. We are pleased to invite you to our 47th annual meeting which will be held, as usual, on the 2nd weekend in June: June 11th, 12th, and 13th 2010, at the Austen Riggs Center in Stockbridge, Massachusetts.

We think you will be very pleased with this year's program developed by Doris. On Friday evening, we are pleased to have Bradley Peterson who will speak on "The Circumplex Model of Affect." On Saturday morning, following time for a go-round to share our recent work, we are pleased to have Jeanine Vivona whose presentation is titled: "Embodied Language in Neuroscience and Psychoanalysis." Following lunch, the afternoon session will be given over to Doris Silverman who will speak on "Our Sexy Brain, Our Compelling Environment: Interactionism in Female Development." There will be ample time for continued discussion of our Saturday presentations at the end of the day. Cocktails at the Lippmann's completes our Saturday. On Sunday, following our business meeting, we are most happy to have Jeremy Safran, Morris Eagle and David Wolitzky in a Panel discussion: "Clinical and Empirical Issues: Disagreements and Agreements." (The background for this panel is the controversy stirred by Irwin Hoffman's article "Doublethinking Our Way to 'Scientific' Legitimacy: the Desiccation of Human Experience", in the Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association, 2009, 57, 5: 1043-1069) in which he objects to the privileging of empirical research over clinical case studies.)

We are again grateful to Paolo Migone for helping us maintain our electronic presence. Our website remains www.psychomedia.it/rapaport-klein to review the history of every meeting since the beginning of our group including many of the papers presented at our meetings. The website for this year's program is www.psychomedia.it/rapaport-klein/june2010.htm which contains additional information on all presentations. If there are any changes in your e-mail address, please notify Paolo at Migone@unipr.it. Again we expect that some of the papers presented this year will be posted. Any suggestions for improving our website are welcome and should also be sent to Paolo.

We need to remind you that dues and fees for guests need to be paid as soon as possible. Space is limited and we request no more than one guest per member. Kindly call Doris Silverman (212-799-1577) or Paul Lippmann (413-298-3435) as soon as you can to let us know if you are inviting a guest. Overnight accommodations should be made soon since, as you know, it is busy time of the year in the Berkshires. Members that would care to stay at the Red Lion Inn should call 413-298-5545 before May 12 and refer to "Group Reservation # 177508: Rapaport-Klein Rooms."

Sincerely,

Paul Lippmann and Doris Silverman, Co-Chairs
